The Nissan Titan XD is looking like a decent value proposition when buying used compared to other diesels, especially if you’re looking for something that can handle a load a bit better than the half tons but maybe don’t need the ridiculousness of the newer 3/4-1 ton diesels.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Here’s a ~2 year old vehicle that had an MSRP north of $55k selling for $37k (and you can actually find some in the lower trim levels for around and even under $30k)...for comparison similar 2017 2500s are selling for $45-55k

The XD seems to be holding prices similar to the half ton diesels available but gives you a more capable and stable tow vehicle than the other half tons. I’m guessing in a few years these will be under $20k.

But then you have to drive the one of the ugliest vehicles on t he road , let alone the segment .

And Nissan’ s quality recently has been... questionable.

what gets me is how they supposedly set out to build a “tweener” which fits between the -150/1500 class and the -250/2500 class, yet the thing is just as damn heavy as an F-250 with the 6.7 Powerstroke.

seriously, the Titan XD CC 4x4 diesel is 7396, and an F-250 CC 4x4 diesel is 7264.

I think it probably is more of a 3/4 ton in reality...all the reviews say it’s very stable when towing compared to a 1/2 ton. Nissan probably just didn’t want to actually say they are competing against the F250/2500s since they definitely don’t match up.

I never got the hate when it came out nor do I get it now...I don’t think it looks any worse than any other full size truck. They’re trucks...none of them are particularly pretty.

First I’ve heard of Nissan’s recent quality issues though.

honestly, though,  I think they hit kind of a “sweet spot” with the Cummins ISV.  if you pop the hood of a Titan XD, you can actually see the engine.  Contrast that with the Powerstroke or Duramax, which (because they’re trying to beat each other up on power/torque) have an absolute mountain of emissions control hardware piled on top of the engines.

Yup...and that’s why it’s very intriguing to me. I’d like to get a diesel truck but don’t need the excessive towing specs of the 3/4 tons but would like something a bit better than the 1/2 tons. With the Cummins engine and the lower price point it’s definitely on my radar.

I would definitely consider one of these in the future.

you dont see the outside of the vehicle when youre driving it, and the interiors are pretty nice spaces

a dealer near me has a 2017 titan Pro-4x in blue for 34k which seems like a hell of a deal, though its the gas model not the XD

There was at least one base model 2017 Titan crew cab 4x4 that was listed for $23k, which really isn’t bad.

not at all, especially if youre just looking for a decent work truck and dont care about the brand. Id buy a titan if i was in the market for a fullsize

Not really. They are currently advertised @ up to $14k off on Nissan’s website. A 2 yr old one for $18k off means that it only lost $4k in value in 2 yrs, which is actually extremely good.

YMMV depending on how you actually buy the truck. Anybody that paid MSRP when they were first released is totally hosed right now. Anybody shopping for one would be foolish to buy used, when the price jump to new is so low.

It’s going after a very niche market. I think the engine is a flop though, as it makes 2/3 the power of a bigger diesel in a 3/4 ton, while costing about the same to buy, fuel, and maintenain .

The better choice would be either going for a smaller 1/2 ton diesel and getting 5-10 mpg better fuel economy, or going for a full 3/4 ton for the powahhhhh.

True, right now it probably doesn’t make sense. Who knows how long that lasts though.
